TV guy + 3 kids = would like a nap
I proposed to my wife 15 years ago this summer with a video I produced when I worked for Access Hollywood, on which different celebrities explained why she should marry me. After they had their say, it ended with my forehead zit and me popping the question, both on the tape and on the American Airlines flight that was taking us from LA to New York for a friend’s wedding, during which it played.
This is a still from the video that I am using as fundraising bait on Facebook. If I get $500 in new donations in support of my 5 Boro Bike Tour ride for the MMRF by Monday, it goes up.
Same offer applies on Tumblr.

I’ve already gotten $150 since I made the challenge. This should be a layup. Dig deep.

Believe me when I tell you that this drink is no joke.

noraleah:

Ginger & Light Guard.

Craig set before me a glass of fluid gel bubbles of Peychaud’s, lime zest, and slivers of shiso nestled in a snowy pile of dry ice, a lemongrass swizzle stick propped across the top and a tiny carafe full of vodka (yes! vodka!) on the side.

“Do you know how to swizzle?” he asked as he poured the vodka in the glass.

“Sure do.”

And with a few quick twists, a cocktail was born.

NYPL Labs is proud to bring you the Stereogranimator, a tool for transforming historical stereographs from The New York Public Library’s vast collections into shareable 3D web formats. This site is all about your participation, so have fun with it, experiment with it, and let us know how we can improve it. In fact, this project wouldn’t even exist if it hadn’t been for a user like yourself getting creative with library collections. Here’s the story of how that happened

THE OFFICIAL FUNDRAISING LETTER

On May 6th, I am participating in the TD Bank 5 Boro Bike Tour, a 40+ mile ride through New York City, as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation’s Power Team. I’m doing this for two very important reasons: to honor my mother, Carol Baxt, and to raise as much money as I can for the MMRF.

In 2008, my mother lost her battle with Multiple Myeloma, a rare blood cancer with one of the lowest survival rates any cancer. Initially diagnosed in 1995, and given a survival prognosis of about 3 years, mom used a patented Carol Baxt combination of sheer will and the latest information about Myeloma and its most current treatments to fight on for 13 years. The will power came from her unending love of life and for her family. (There was nothing that was going to keep her from being a grandmother, even if it was only for a short time.) The information came from resources like the MMRF.

With generous help from people like Carol - who was an active fundraiser while she was alive - and you, the MMRF has turned the drug development process on its ear, and consistently finds new ways to bring treatments to patients faster. In the 14 years that the MMRF has been in existence, the life expectancy of a patient has more than doubled…and they’re just getting warmed up. The ultimate goal is a cure, and donations like yours will get them there someday.

Please help the cause and support me as I ride to honor of my mom and help advance the cure for Myeloma. An amazing 93% of all monies raised by the MMRF through events like this go directly to research. You also can take comfort in the fact that the MMRF is one of the most highly accredited charities in the world, and continually receives awards from charity watch dog organizations like Charity Navigator. Bottom line, this charity is no joke. Your money will make a difference.

I urge you to visit http://tinyurl.com/carolsride and donate what you can. I’ve made a commitment to raise at least $3500 for the MMRF, but I’m more than happy to move that goal higher and higher.

No donation is too small (or too big!) and, with your help, I personally guarantee that I will destroy Multiple Myeloma by riding a bicycle.
Thank you for your support.

PS - Many companies offer matching funds for charitable donations. Please take a moment to find out if yours does before donating.
